Frequently Asked Questions
Bookings & Pricing
What is the minimum and maximum length of stay?
The minimum stay at the Centre is two nights and the maximum is two weeks, unless approved under special circumstances.
Can I book a room for just part of a group retreat?
Group retreat bookings are for the full duration of the retreat. This ensures that everyone who wants to attend the whole event is able to book. Individual retreat bookings outside of group retreat dates are more flexible on duration.
Do you have an extented stay discount?
Yes, for stays of seven nights or longer, a 15% discount is applied.
Can I host my own retreat or event at the Centre?
The Centre does not host privately organised retreats, workshops or events. All programmes are arranged in-keeping with the founder’s intentions. You are welcome to visit as a group of individual guests, but no external teaching or facilitation may take place at the Centre.
Do you have reduced rate rooms?
Yes, three rooms are available at a reduced rate of £75 per night (£85 on weekends). These are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and can be booked through the booking page when available. In addition, students or those under 25 who cannot afford the standard rates are encouraged to contact us.
Can I visit for the day?
Yes, day visits are welcome. There is a charge for meals: Lunch £20. Supper £15. Lunch and supper £35. Use of the study facilities without meals is free of charge, and donations are welcome. Please contact us at least a day in advance to arrange your visit.
Retreats and Events
Do I need to know about Krishnamurti before visiting?
No prior knowledge is required. The Centre is dedicated to exploring his teachings, and many guests find it meaningful to arrive with at least a sense of this work or an interest in exploring it during their stay. We therefore encourage you to spend some time acquainting yourself with the teachings, which can help you with questions or topics you would like to explore. Helpful starting points can be found here.
When should I arrive, and when does the retreat finish?
Group and Young Adults retreats start at 5pm on the first day and end with lunch at 1pm on departure day. You are welcome to check in from 11am on arrival day (lunch is included). The same applies to Silent Retreats, except for an earlier start at 3.45pm.
What happens during a silent retreat?
Silent retreats feature carefully selected Krishnamurti audio recordings but no dialogue meetings. The whole Centre is in silence, giving the opportunity to inquire deeply. The full retreat schedule will be shared before your arrival.
Practical Information
What time is check-in and check-out?
Check-in is from 11am, though your room may be ready a little later on busy days, when you are most welcome to arrive in the morning and use the communal facilities. We kindly ask that you vacate your room by 10am. Guests may then continue their retreat, leaving their belongings safely at reception.
What are the meal times?
Breakfast is served between 8 and 9am. Lunch is served at 1pm and supper at 6.30pm. Tea and coffee are available throughout the day from the tea servery in the dining room. A silent table is also available for guests who prefer to eat in quiet.
Can I have lunch on my arrival day?
Lunch is included on arrival day and can be booked as an extra on departure day. If a guest arrives after lunch, lunch can be included on the departure day without an extra charge. This does not apply during events (group retreats), where lunch is included on both arrival and departure days.
What facilities are in the guest rooms?
All rooms are en-suite. All large rooms include a bath with a shower. Whilst most standard rooms have a walk-in shower, four also feature a bathtub. All rooms have views of the grounds. Towels, bed linen and a kettle are provided. Hairdryers are available on request.
Is there WIFI?
WIFI is available in the reception area and is for checking emails, making bookings and emergencies only. There is a computer with internet in the bookshop, which guests can use for brief internet access if needed. Mobile phones and other electronic devices should only be used in your own room or in the car park, not in the public areas of the Centre.
What should I bring?
The weather in England can be mixed, so please bring a few warm layers and ideally a waterproof jacket and some walking shoes or boots that can get muddy. We also suggest bringing a second pair of shoes or slippers for use inside the building.
How do I pay?
A non-refundable deposit of £100 is required to secure your booking for individual and group retreats. You will receive an email a few days before your arrival with a link to pay the remaining balance by card. Alternatively, you are welcome to pay on arrival. We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express.
